No Nuclear

The extremely short sighted Ontario provincial government is pledging 26 billion dollars to refurbish older nuclear reactors & construct 2 new ones at Darlington. From the time the Darlington reactors were first planned, it took 20 years to complete construction and it was predicted that the cost for the construction of the Darlington reactor would balloon uncontrollably - it did.

The deception practiced by OPG in their attempt to market nuclear energy is both blatant and dangerous.   A woman holds up a nuclear pellet with her bare hands, it looks like a piece of licorice....nuclear waste does not decompose or become inert. It's reactivity only begins to degrade slightly after 10,000 years. Digging a deep hole in the Canadian Shield, burying the waste and forgetting about the expended uranium is NOT THE ANSWER! Nuclear power companies and the government are guilty of portraying it as a 'green' source of energy. It is precisely the opposite. The waste nuclear power produces is so toxic, it doesn't matter that little pellets of expended uranium are produced, add that up to 30 million pellets per person per year and that's a LOT of nuclear waste that no one is capable of disposing.

Spending money on archaic and deleterious nuclear reactor technology, is not a viable solution to the energy crisis.  The money should be spent on shutting all nuclear facilities across Canada, without exception, and shifting resources and research to enabling sustainable energy output from solar, wind, peatmoss and geothermal sources.
